Time for another learning series article based on a recent scenario, A Project manager reported that she noticed that for all of her resources in project team the assignment shows the work on weekends and it’s not expected since she has the standard calendar- calendar 1 (Copy of Standard with standard company holidays) assigned to Project.
I had a look at the plan and found that when the Task – “Phase 1…” was created , there was no calendar assigned to the Tasks as it shows the None in Task Properties and that’s how the Weekends are also working days. Since Task is having the Actuals so modification of the Task was not possible as Project online has the protected actuals enabled (Actual work can be updated via Timesheets or Tasks).
I created a Test task and assigned a “Calendar 1”, assigned a resource and I could see the Weekend as Non-working days.
Steps to resolve-
-
Approved/ reject all the updates if there are any pending in approval center
-
Close the Task by updating the Remaining work as 0 , rename task and set publish to NO
-
Create a new Task.. Task something like “Part 2 Phase 1…”
-
Assign Calendar, resources as desired and schedule to verify (weekends shouldn’t be working days )
-
Save and publish the plan
-
Communicate to the team about the change in Task and suggest not to enter any hours on task as defined in step 2
Happy learning…
